Rising Oil
With the rising price of gasoline prices take some consolation in the fact that Canada has enough oil reserves to provide the resource for the next 100 years...!
Gasoline Price - August 1999 - $0.49 / Litre
It seems like yesterday, while on holidays, after filling up the tank at the gas station paying only $0.49/litre.
Happy memories of a distant billing experience:
$19.00 Full tank of gas
3.50 Soda / Chips / Chocolate Bar...(s)
2.50 Gourmet Coffee
$25.00 = Satisfied Petroleum Shopper!
Gasoline Price - August 2005 - $1.10 / Litre
It was yesterday, we were not on holidays, and after filling up at the gas station paid a whopping $1.10/litre.
"Ripped-off" memories from just yesterday:
$46.00 Full tank of gas (ok, a larger vehicle)
0.00 No Soda / Chips / Chocolate Bar...(s)
0.00 No Gourmet Coffee
$46.00 = Unhappy (But Healthy) Customer.
Canadian Oil Supply
Take some comfort in knowing that Canada has the largest known oil deposit in the world outside of Saudia Arabia. Although we may not be able to afford a tank of gasoline in 30 years, we'll have enough to last another 70+...!
While we have the resource, the process of separating oil from sand and clay has two significant drawbacks:
A. Expensive
Extracting four barrels of oil requires spending the equivalent value of a fifth barrel.
B. Greenhouse gases
Large amounts of greenhouse gases are released during the process. These levels are comparable to 1/3 the daily pollution levels released from car emissions in California
Positive Notes
1. Due to the higher prices at the gas pump, no spare change available for purchasing unhealthy / unneccessary snacks and beverages.
2. Since our restaurant is located within walking distance of the beautiful, Lougheed Town Center Sky Train station, dinner at Insadong doesn't require a vehicle!

Public Transit
By the year 2009, two safe, above-ground, Sky-Train extensions will provide more travel options for visiting the Best Korean Restaurant in Vancouver:
1. Travel from Vancouver Airport direct to Insadong
2. Ride from Port Moody / Port Coquitlam direct to Insadong.
