The Best Korean Restaurant At MSN.com
Tip: How email, perservance and being a "pain in the you-know-what!" can make a difference!
Background
We discussed at the restaurant the possibility of becoming the best Korean restaurant in Vancouver. During the discussion I'm asked how we can become the best Korean restaurant in the world...online <joking>
I start by setting up a couple websites:
(just a reference to insadong.ca)
The Search (over coffee...)
From the patio at our restaurant, using the free WiFi internet access, I tried the following two online searches:
Google - "Best Korean Restaurant" ... we're listed on pg 4.
MSN.com - "Best Korean Restaurant" - we're not listed at all!
The 3 Emails
Surprised that we are not listed at MSN.com, I decide to send an email :
Email #1. I suggest Microsoft change their search engine to combine words (no gaps) and look for a direct web hit. After one week, no response.
Email #2. Repeat, slightly stronger email. ....another week, no response!
Email #3. I let loose. I state bluntly how Google and Yahoo are much better search engines, providing examples. Why not? MSN.com is not listing our restaurant anyways!
Next day.....
I try... "Best Korean Restaurant" ...wow, we are #1 and #2
I try... "Insadong"... wow, again we are #1.

Now For The Other Search Sites...
Excuse me as I send an email to Google and Yahoo explaining how MSN.com has recently become a better search engine....!
Lesson...
Instead of sending $cash$ to Google or Yahoo for advertising, I simply spent five to ten minutes, sending only three short emails.
The pen (or keyboard) is mightier than the sword!
Snap'em up
"Snap-up" those domains with multiple words / phrases concatenated..!
If you make a $million$ from this tip, why not treat yourself to a lobster dinner at our restaurant?
If you don't make a $million$ you can always try something else from the menu.
Prices at our restaurant are actually very reasonable!
